Description: This book is LIKE NEW in the original box with its Notes From the Editors pamphlet. I have for sale multiple books similar to this one that are 100% Brand New and Mint, so I must distinguish this one as not exactly the same as all of those. I received this one separately from a different source. It seems to have been handled slightly and has a few extremely minor scratches to the text block gilt. This is the reason why I've taken pictures of all sides of the text block, whereas I would have no reason to with the others of its kind that are basically untouched. It is about as close to PERFECT condition as you will find, though. The condition is 9.75/10 and definitely gift quality. On a side note, this is my personal favorite edition of 'The Scarlet Letter' and I've owned multiple leather editions from the Franklin Library and the Easton Press. If I didn't have another copy of this particular book for my personal collection I would never sell it. 'The Scarlet Letter: A Romance' is a work of historical fiction by American author Nathaniel Hawthorne, published in 1850. Set in the Puritan Massachusetts Bay Colony during the years 1642 to 1649, the novel tells the story of Hester Prynne, who conceives a daughter with a man to whom she is not married and then struggles to create a new life of repentance and dignity. Containing a number of religious and historic allusions, the book explores themes of legalism, sin and guilt. The Scarlet Letter was one of the first mass-produced books in the United States. It was popular when first published and is considered a classic work of American literature. Critics have described The Scarlet Letter as a masterwork, and novelist D. H. Lawrence called it a "perfect work of the American imagination".
