Description: FRANCE 1895 ART NOUVEAU PARIS UNIVERSITY BRONZE MEDAL BY JULES-CLEMENT CHAPLAIN 65MM NGC MS63Beautiful original uncirculated French Art Medal certified MS-63 by the Numismatic Guaranty Company.Jules-Clément Chaplain and Louis Oscar Roty, the acknowledged leaders of the late nineteenth-century renaissance of the medal in France, were instrumental in popularizing the art of the medal in Europe and abroad. Chaplain, who has been called "the first great artist to make use of the flexibility offered by the reducing machine," demonstrated, with his masterful portrait medallions, "that a single model, properly conceived, could be successful both as a cast plaque on a large scale and as a struck medal or plaquette on a small scale." All Chaplain medals are prized and highly collectable. This medal, struck in bronze, is very scarce and hard to find in this high mint state condition. The Leonard Collection was one of the first large-scale collections of original high quality European and U.S. Art Medals to be submitted to and certified by the Numismatic Guaranty Company. This medal is encapsulated in a special oversize holder measuring 7 1/2" X 5 3/4". I am now beginning to sell many of my personal favorites from this collection. The medal will ship via USPS Priority Mail.
