Obverse: Conjoined busts of Benjamin Franklin and Baron Antoine de Montyon facing left, vertical legends at left and right; Reverse: Seven-line legend within oak wreath tied with ribbon, star below, perimeter legend. Variety with tip of Franklin's nose at the letter "U" of DU. Issued by the Société Montyon et Franklin which "was formed at Paris in the year 1833 [and] whose object is to publish memoirs and portraits of men of all countries who are entitled to be regarded as the benefactors of their species." The reverse perimeter legend refers to the title of this annual publication of the society. Interestingly, an image of this medal is found on the inaugural 1833 issue, but with the portraits facing right and some other minor differences. A pleasing specimen semi-glossy chocolate surfaces and just a few minor handling marks. A die crack is noted from the tip of Montyon's bust to the legend at right. Ships USPS Priority Mail Insured
