Description: Fort Yellowstone was built in 1891 at the site of Mammoth Hot Springs in Wyoming Territory and occupied by US Cavalry troops who won the praise of naturalist John Muir for protecting the lands by guarding the Park region from settlers who cut timber and poached game . The stone buildings are in use today as part of the Visitor's Center. The first park rangers adopted the US Military style hat still worn.
