Description: The Retreatby Forrest ReidFaber & Faber1936299 pp. Please see my other auctions for other rare and antiquarian books. I am downsizing my 30 year collection and have many fine books to sell in the months ahead... Description: First edition with a stamp to the title page that states "Colonial Edition". There is an old bookseller's sticker affixed to the front pastedown that suggests the book was purchased in Haifa. A well-traveled book! Dust Jacket Condition: (G) The DJ spine is missing a 1/2" chip to the left corner and 1/6" along the remaining head of the spine (results in the loss of half of the word "The" and the "Re" in the title). The bottom of the DJ spine has 1/8" chipping along the middle half. The front panel has a 1/3" chip at bottom right corner; there is a 3" closed tear with some surface chipping that runs down the left edge of the panel from the top left corner; further to the right, there are two 1/4" closed tears to the top edge of the panel; the bottom right corner has a 1/3" closed tear at its edge. The rear panel of the DJ shows some foxing and two 1/6" chips to the top left and top middle edge. Book Condition: (VG) The red boards and gilt titling show no damage. Internally there is some very sporadic foxing marks. An additional bookseller has applied a small sticker to the rear pastedown. We always ship in a box carefully bubble-wrapped and protected so that it reaches you in exactly the condition in which it left us. Unfortunately, it is not cost-effective to ship in an envelope due to USPS limitations. Questions always welcomed. Thank you.
