Description: This impressive 7+ foot totem pole was hand carved by American folk artist Leo Smith in the 1970s. Weathering mainly impacted the bottom of the pole but is still very solid. This piece was outside for 50+ years, slightly sheltered, brought inside last year. Leo carved a mosquito around the same time that is valued at about $600,000, Leo states this piece's value to be enough to cover costs of 5 bachelor degrees. This piece has not been appraised. My grandfather traded Leo Smith a wrought iron fence for this totem pole in 1974, the fence still stands around the Smith's home. Leo Smith was featured in an episode of KSMQs "Off 90" and many of his works were in the Minnesota Marine Art Museum in 2018. Recommend Buyer to purchase separate shipping insurance.
