FLASK: Pectabinaria NEW UNNAMED COMPLEX HABERNARIA BY PECTEILIS hybrid orchid

Description: Up for Sale: A flask of a Pectabinaria hybrid from Leon Glicenstein, a well known hybridizer of terrestrial orchids. The images are of the parents: Habenaria Conure ‘Judy’AM/AOS x Pecteilis susannae. The auction flask is shown in the images with the tape measure. It is growing in a 24 oz plastic flask. [6038] Contents: Approximately 15 seedlings that are ready to come out of flask. The Hybrid: A cross of Habenaria Conure ‘Judy’AM/AOS x Pecteilis susannae. Culture: I have grown Habenaria in both intermediate and warm conditions successfully. You need to provide for the seasonal dry winter conditions to succeed with this genera. When possible, I have found these do best if I deflask while in active growth. If the humidity is low, I keep them in a covered plastic try for the first couple of weeks so the humidity stays high. Lift the lid from time to time to freshen the air. An inexpensive covered aluminum cake or roasting pan from the grocery store will work well. For the ones that are dormant, I pot them in an almost dry medium and begin watering carefully as the growth emerges. During the growing season I water and fertilize as for many other plants. I don't let it dry completely at this time. I am currently using a mix that consists of 4 parts chopped sphagnum, 3 parts fine bark, 2 parts charcoal, 2 parts perlite (or akadama and kanuma) and 1 part potting soil. Many other mixed are possible. I have also grown seedlings in straight New Zealand sphagnum moss and then move to a terrestrial mix after the first winter out of flask. Dry rest for Habenaria: Coming out of dry rest is the tricky part. What I've found best in my conditions is to take off most of the potting medium as the leaves die back in the fall and keep them in the pot over the winter. I keep them in a tray with a plastic cover until they start to sprout. I used to keep them in the house but now I keep them in a warm greenhouse (65F/18C minimum night). The tubers should stay above 60F. I don't really mist them during this time, but the humidity isn't very low. As each one starts to sprout I will pot it up and set in about 1/2" water for a few minutes to wet the medium at the bottom for some added humidity. Once it begins to come up above the surface I will "water" it with a spray bottle (set to a stream, not to mist) around the edges once or twice being sure not to wet the plant. After the leaves open up then I will begin to water normally with my other plants. From that point on they don't dry out until I begin to lessen the water in the fall. Your plant will be packed very carefully, but I cannot guarantee that flowers or spikes will be intact on receipt. I want my customers to be happy, so if there is a problem contact me immediately, I will do my very best to see that it is corrected. About this flask: I take great pride in producing flasks with strong seedlings that are ready to come out of flask and have a very good survival rate. The survival of these seedlings is dependent on the conditions where they will be growing and the skill of the grower. If you are new to deflasking seedlings (or just want to see how I do it) you may want to take a look at my webpage with suggestions for taking seedlings out of flask. If you want to see it, just do a search for the phrase “deflasking suggestions.Shipping seedlings: After a bit of experience shipping flasks, I have decided that deflasking before shipping is probably the safest for the plants. I will shake off most of the medium, treat them with beneficial microbes and fungicide and put them in a zip bag. If your prefer to have them shipped in flask you must let me know that. Whether they are in flask or bagged, you should be prepared to pot them up shortly after receiving.Shipping & Handling Charge: It is the buyer’s responsibility to check the weather in the delivery area and let me know if special precautions are necessary.Packing and shipping for the first plant or flask is US $13.95; additional plants or flasks in the same shipment are only $1.50 each.
