Description: Flashpoint: GolanThe 5th (6th, 7th, 8th?) Arab Israeli War(s)from Victory Games in 1991Mint in the Box! Unplayed and unpunched. The counters have a bit of an curve, bend? from 40 years of sitting around. But they're still all in there. Very slight shelfwear on the edges. All 4 corners nice and tight, NO dishing, slight bow at the top. A pristine copy. Makes that squeak when you press the box shut. The game portrays battalion level warfare in Middle East in a set of hypothetical scenarios set in 1992. The map covers most of Israel, Syria, Jordan and Lebanon. US, Soviet and Iraqi expeditionary forces are also included for the more apocalyptic scenarios. Time scale is 1 day per turn and each hex is 4 km. Flashpoint Golan comes with a set of fixed scenarios, but also include a scenario generator powered by a simple political simulator that decides how UN and the superpowers view the warring parties. The map contains the Golan Heights, Lebanon (up to Beirut), southern Syria, the West Bank & Jordan down to the dead seas, and the surrounding area. But not Gaza. The major combatants are; Israel, Syria and Jordan with possible intervention by Iraq, the PLO, Yemen, US and/or Soviet Union forces. The Middle East Is home to some of the largest, most heavily-armed, and politically influential military forces on the planet- and is also a seething mass of national, religious and ethnic animosities, where conflict Is always likely, and likely to command international attention (and involvement). This simulation lets you explore the most likely of these hypothetical conflicts, a fifth Arab-Israeli war, on Israel's northern and eastern borders. There are no player turns in the game. Each formation (usually divisions) in the game have a little chit with its name on it. All but one of these (selected by the initiative player) are placed in a single cup. The selected formation is activated and begins operations. When it is done, chits are drawn at random from the cup. As each chit is drawn that formation can move and fight. When all chits are drawn there is some cleanup and supply-checking and the cup is refilled for another round of operations. The game can be said to be fought in two arenas. One is the traditional movement and combat of ground units. The other is the use of "headquarter capabilities." Typical headquarter capabilities are firing short-range ballistic missiles, jamming, building fortifications and minefields, replenishing ammo and using tank transporters. Also, use of these can be detected and reacted to, for example by artillery strike. The game has an uncommon turn sequence. Units of the active formation that are in ZOC at the beginning of their activation have one set of options open to them (which does not include the normal movement), while those not in enemy ZOC are free to maneuver and make overruns (called meeting engagement battles). After all units have completed that phase, there is another phase like this, though with less oportunity for movement. Thus, there are at least two opportunities for combat for a single formation.Air operations are completely abstract in the game. Each turn, a die is rolled and the Air Superiority Level is adjusted. Each participating nation then rolls on a table to see how many air strikes are available for that turn.
