Author Biography Dominic Jones graduated from Azusa Pacific University with a Bachelors in Broadcast Journalism. While attending, he fell in love with music and made an unofficial study of it, so much so that deep into his time there many of the musical faculty thought he was actually a music major. Having taken lessons on the piano as a young boy but allowing what he had learned to fade away because of lack of interest, Jones was astonished, when he went to college, to meet musicians who could do things with the piano that he had never dreamed. They could play without music. They could take written music and add to it or change it on the fly based on what seemed to be some type of magical or hidden musical knowledge. Through much study and lots of hard work, Jones discovered that the magic of music was grounded in some basic rules that, once understood, open up a whole new world of freedom for the musician. Having learned most from simply talking and listening to other musicians, reading, and LOTS of practice, Jones is able to speak about music in the laymans terms that make learning easy and fun and that many other piano improvisation books lack because of their overemphasis on theory.
