Description: Up for bid is a very fine pierced lidded Asian silver jar with Buddhist symbols. The jar is about 4 3/4 inches tall by 5 ¼ inches wide and weighs 514 grams. The jar has a narrow top and wide base. The jar has a pierced upper half, with chased scroll work and symbols of five of the Buddhist Treasures. The lower half of the body has bands of flat and repousse decoration, as well as applied cylinder shapes. It has a flat foot with a lotus flower design, and a flat lid with chased decoration and a rope edge. The exterior of the body has a zig-zag of applied silver wire rope. It is marked “SILVER” on the foot.NOTE: This piece was part of a large accumulation of Indian silver, some Hindu and some secular. I am not sure why this Buddhist piece was included, but it is likely from somewhere else in southeast Asia.Condition on the piece is good. There are just normal signs of use. A very fine piece of Asian silver.
