Description: This great earlier mola has a deep red color but my camera sees it as Chinese red - almost orange. Just so you know. Four scarab-shaped elements with unknown (at least by me) meaning decorate the front. Perhaps they are just abstractions but they really look like something specific. The mola is in very good condition. It has been enlarged twice and the seams are readily visible, especially on the back. Sometimes an existing mola will be widened during a woman's pregnancy but that would require additional decorative elements and that is not the case here. The cloth was already larger before the sewing was done. The appliqués themselves show puckering between stitches and fading, both indications of washing, wearing and age. The rick rack appears to not be handmade. Also, the outside edges are darker than the lighter red base color of the panel, a sure sign of significant exposure to the sun. It is 15 1/2" x 18". U.S. buyers only please. [Boston Primitive]
