🔥 Fine Antique Old 19th c Virginia Impressionist Landscape Oil Painting, De Kay

Description: This is a lovely and very detailed Fine Antique Old 19th c American Impressionist Landscape Oil Painting on canvas, by late 19th century Virginia Impressionist painter, William de Kay. Very little, if anything is known about this artist, but the only other William De Kay artwork to turn up was found in Virginia. And due to the prevalence of this surname in that state, I suspect the artist was active in this area, but this only circumstantial evidence, and is not conclusive. However, at the very least it is highly likely that the artist is from the Northeastern or Southern United States. This artwork depicts a tranquil and serene landscape scene, with tall trees, painted with lush foliage, and an open grassland spanning into the distance. Above the landscape is a clear blue sky delicately rendered white clouds. Signed: "Wm. de Kay" in the lower right corner. Additionally, a brass plaque affixed to the front of the frame reads: "Wm. de Kay." Someone previously has tried to wipe away the tarnish on the plaque, creating streaks across it. This can be easily remedied with proper brass cleaner and should be eventually done for aesthetic purposes. This artwork likely dates to the 1880's - 1890's. Approximately 15 1/4 x 20 3/4 inches (including frame.) Actual artwork is approximately 12 x 18 inches. Very good condition for over a century of age, with one small, repaired tear to the canvas, and light craquelure to the original period ornate gilded frame (please see photos.)
