Description: This 3 ½” x 5 ½” multi-colored card pictures the Reverend M. J. Divine (born George Baker), prominent African American Church leader of the 1930’s. He was the founder of the International Peace Mission, a multi-racial and international church. Regarded by some as a cult, it is now hailed as an important precursor of the civil rights movement. Many of his followers regarded him as God. He established a series of restaurants, hotels, and other businesses that provided employment for many out of work African Americans. The mission is still extant. The card is in fine condition with no stains, bends, or tears.
