A criminal who calls himself Fantômas, author of several misdeeds, commits a daring theft in a prestigious Parisian jewelry store, the same day that Commissioner Juve announces his upcoming arrest. FandorN 1, journalist for the daily Le Point du jour and Hélène's fiancé, decides to investigate this strange character, who always appears masked. He believes it to be a pure invention of the police, wanting to show off. To prove it, he publishes a false interview with the criminal in the daily newspaper that employs him. Furious, Fantômas has the journalist kidnapped and orders him to reveal his imposture in a new article that he must publish within 48 hours. But barely released, Fandor is arrested by the Juve commissioner. While he was in police custody, a new article, hardly more laudatory than the previous one regarding Fantômas, appeared without Fandor's knowledge.
