Description: FANTASTIC FOUR #40 (1965) FR/GD 1.5 CREAM TO OFF-WHITE PAGES! DAREDEVIL AND DOCTOR DOOM APPEARANCES! This classic Silver Age book features "The Battle of the Baxter Building!" which is the second part of a two part story beginning in Fantastic Four #39, "A Blind Man Shall Lead Them!" Doctor Doom robs the Fantastic Four of their powers, and Daredevil jumps in to save the day until Reed Richards can restore the group's powers and stop Doctor Doom! The book features an incredible cover and interior art by the legendary Jack Kirby. This is a complete, low grade copy of this key Silver Age issue! The book has the following defects: 1) The cover was detached and is currently attached with several pieces of tape. There is tape residue in several places from older pieces that apparently degraded and fell off the book. 2) There is a 1.5" long, thin chip along the center spine and a smaller chip out of the top of the spine. (See the third picture in the listing.) 3) Various creases and small tears at the edges and in the center of the cover, along with light surface soiling typical of lower grade books. 4) There is a "5" written in grease pencil in the tile letters of the title masthead. All of the above defects are permitted in the FR/GD 1.5 grade according to the Overstreet Grading Guide. The book is complete and all wraps are attached to the staples. There are no missing pages or coupons, nor are there any missing chunks from the back cover or the main cover image. The book is still very readable. I carefully compared this book to the Overstreet Grading Guide and the books in the FR/GD 1.5 section, as well as the grade levels above and below, and concluded that this book merits a FR/GD 1.5 grade. I am a collector for over 40 years with extensive experience with grading, buying and selling comic books. I am a long-time, active member of the CGC forums (username FFB), and past winner of the CGC forum grading contest. All books are carefully and STRICTLY graded in accordance with current Overstreet Grading Guide standards and knowledge of CGC and CBCS grading standards. I am very familiar with restoration techniques and am competent at detecting all forms of restoration (amateur and professional color touch, glue, pieces added, tear seals, disassembly/cleaning, reglossing, trimming, married pages, etc.). I have owned many restored books over the years, have had work performed by several of the top professionals in the hobby on major keys, and am quite able to spot restoration when it is present. I perform a careful restoration check on each book listed. Unless restoration is specifically indicated in the auction description of the book, the book is guaranteed to be unrestored.
