Description: This is a portrait of a cousin of a late cousin in my wife's family. Nickname "Chici." In 1983 he had his own portrait done by now famous artist and well known in her living days, Sher Stewart. (See info below on Sher) We believe the medium for this is chalk. It could also have had some charcoal used. But, in researching her work, I feel comfortable with chalk. This work is framed out at 25" x 20" It has an actual exposed size of 20" x 16" Under protective glass. The last time I checked, I saw a few original pieces of hers selling in the $5k -10K range. She passed away in 2021. She was riding her beloved bicycle in New Orleans and was tragically struck by a hit and run driver on July 16th,2021. PLEASE ASK ANY QUESTIONS YOU MAY HAVE ON THIS PIECE PRIOR TO PURCHASE. IT IS NOT RETURNABLE! Artist Sher Stewart was born in Mississippi in 1946. As a hopeful young artist, she went to New Orleans in 1967. She moved into the city right away and began working as a portrait artist and painter of fine art paintings at Jackson Square. She studied with artist Charles "Chuck Vernon Moran, Sher did the The Americans with Disabilities Act 10th anniversary drawing that became that years event print. It is in the Smithsonian collection and depicts many important figures that were in the Independent Living movement.
