ITEM DESCRIPTION: This is a one family estate lot of letters, documents, and photos that I picked up at a local auction in New Hampshire many years ago. In all, there are about 65 pieces. There are 45 letters dated from 1860s - 1900. These are from the family of ship's Captain Benjamin R. Redman, 1836-1905. Many of these are from Bucksport and North Islesboro, Maine. There are a half a dozen more letters, all to and from Dedham, Mass. and Candia, N. H., all dated 1930s. There are 10 assorted documents - deeds, receipts, court documents, bills of sale, etc. There are 14 matted photos of various sizes, most with all the people identified on the reverse. Included are Grace Redman, Linda Parker, Mrs. Redman Williams, Capt. B. R. Redman, Violet Redman & Molly Blossom, Amory Fisher, Mrs. Amory Fisher, Mrs. Everett & Mrs. Cole (Mrs. Amory Fisher's mother & aunt), Harriet Josephine Redman (wife of Capt. B. R. Redman), Violet, Grace, and Ma, group photo #1 (Ralph Redman, Capt. B. R. Redman, Walter Redman, Grace Redman, Violet Redman, Harriet Josephine Redman, and Fidelia Adams - Harriet's sister) and group photo #2 (cyanotype; three people identified - Mrs. Ralph Redman, Captain Benjamin Redman, and Capt. Williams). This is a rare find - a large archive of the family of a Down East Maine ship's captain with so many identified photos. Letters and photos are all complete and intact and very clean, no staining, mold, mildew, odors, or other damage.
