Description: Fabulous Genuine Royal Navy Rum Tub “The Queen- God Bless Her” (c.1953) These original Royal Naval Brass Banded Oak Rum Ration Serving barrels are becoming rarer by the day, most were given burial’s at sea on “Black Tot Day”, along with the other rum serving items in protest by the rompft sailors of the day. Black Tot Day itself has become an annual tradition when on 31st July 1970, the centuries-old custom was ended as part of a modernisation of the Royal Navy, and sailors old and new now raise a tot to mourn the loss of this tradition! This rum tub comes with the barrel & lid fitted with the acorn finial circa 1953, Its in good used condition with imperfections and a patina commensurate with their age & use. This one has been bolstered with an interior band to stop the wooden panels moving The last couple of these sold quickly to the States, it would be nice to see this one stay in the U.K so don’t dally!
