Description: This is an extremely lovely untouched example of an early 19th century document box. It is constructed with finely made dovetails and very early wrought iron nails. The paint decoration is a sponge or feather form of application. The paint varies in shades of brown, sienna, and umber. The interior is clean and retains the original wrought iron hinges, locking mechanism and latch. All original in everyway with a few added nails to secure joints. The lid has batons or moldings on each opposing side. Condition is very good with as expected abrasions and one separation on the bottom board. A rare survivor and one that will enhance any early American collection. It measures 19" wide x 8" high x 9" deep.
