CURRENCYNOTES OF ETHIOPIA1997 – 2019The Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia (FDRE) introduced New Currency Notes in 1997[1989 Ethiopian Calendar / EC]. The First Issue has five denominations: 1 Birr;5 Birr; 10 Birr; 50 Birr and 100 Birr.A total of 12Issues were released during 1997 to 2019 [1989 to 2011 EC] of which complete Sets of Birr 1 to Birr 100 were issued five times: (i) 1997 [1989 EC]; (ii)2000 [1992 EC]; (iii) 2003 [1995 EC]; (iv) 2006 [1998 EC]; and (v) 2008 [2000EC].Although the issuance of 1 Birr was stopped in 2011 [2003 EC], it has been in USE till 2019[2011 EC]. Therefore, a one time New Set with Denominations of 5 Birr, 10 Birr,50 Birr and 100 Birr was released in 2015 [2007 EC].New Series of 50 Birr and 100 Birr were Issued in: (i) 2004 [1997 EC]; (ii) 2011 [2003EC]; (iii) 2012 [2004 EC] and (iv) 2019 [2011 EC].Single issues of 5 Birr and 10 Birr were released in: (i) 2013 [2005 EC]; and (ii)2017 [2009 EC] respectively.Another important factor to Note is that during all these years the Design of the Notes was the same for the respective Denominations. Also surprisingly the Notes were signed by only three Governors: (a) First Issue 1997 [1989 EC]; (b) From 2000 to2017 [1992 to 2009 EC] and (c) 2019 [2011 EC].******************
