Description: Techniques of the Hudson River School Masters with Erik Koeppel CLICK HERE FOR PREVIEW For over 100 years artist’s have tried to master the look and feel of the Hudson River School Painters. These paintings created by Thomas Cole, Asher B. Durand and others had a special sense of air, dramatic light, distance and a luminous quality, which others have tried to copy unsuccessfully. Artist Erik Koeppel has spent over a decade studying these masters, researching their writings and notes, and discovering how they captured the feel of nature in their paintings. One time each summer Koeppel teaches a small group of painters at the Hudson River Fellowship to teach these timeless techniques. Students apply from all over the world to be selected to attend. Now you can learn these techniques from this young master. Now, for the first time Erik Koeppel shares these lost techniques. This video starts with a demonstration and discussion on sketching your composition, understanding what is important to leave in and take out. We then go on location to do an outdoor “plein air” oil sketch to capture the essence of the scene. Because trees are so difficult to paint and understand we do a separate tree study at sunset. We then take you into the studio for hours of enjoyment where you’ll learn the glazing techniques of the Hudson River School Masters, plus we’ll take all the elements and create a more in-depth studio painting, walking you through every step. Erik Koeppel is an excellent instructor. Then Fine Art Connoisseur publisher B. Eric Rhoads conducts an in-depth interview with Koeppel so you can understand the thought behind his artwork and technique. We also show you an exhibit of some of Koeppel’s best paintings.Whether or not you want to paint like the Hudson River School painters, the principles of these lost techniques can be applied to other painting styles, including impressionism. You’ll learn volumes about how to paint in this new video.
