It is titled "A boring Book" and was painted in 1872. This oil on canvas depicts a woman in elaborate dress fast asleep in her chair while he book rests on her lap. She is surrounded by the opulence of the 19thC. including a bronze shelf clock with candelabrum, beautiful draperies, a paintings, elaborate dressing screen, and a hand painted planter bottom right. It is signed lower left "E. Bare 1872" The back retains it's original intake tag, and the original letter to a Mr. William Wilson of London, from Sotheby's 19th Century European Paintings Department, signed by director Dominique Reiner. This is a very fine painting with it's original French carved frame. A great investment in fine art for the discerning collector. Please view this weeks selections for other pieces of exceptional fine art and the painting by Charles Clement Calderon (lot # 103) spoke about on the Sotheby's Paperwork in this lot. Measures; 23.75" x 16 5/8", framed 29" x 21" (60.32cm x 42.22cm, 73.66cm x 53.34cm)Condition: This is a very fine painting. It has been professionally relined and looks clean from any inpainting with blacklight. The painting has an allover stabile craquelure that is not really visible unless you get right up on it and cast a sharp light across it. Under normal lighting the painting displays just fine with only a minor amount of craquelure visible. It is in overall very good condition, professionally restored to last another lifetime. It is investment quality and will grace the walls of even the finest homes. Great piece with accompanying original paperwork from Sotheby's London. Frame shows minor wear and displays the painting beautifully. Please view all photographs as they are part of the description.
