Description: This is a rare advertising herald (flyer) and separate minicard promoting ticket sales for the Original West End production of the Sir ELTON JOHN and LEE HALL musical "BILLY ELLIOT" at the Victoria Palace Theatre in London. (The production opened May 11th, 2005 and closed April 9th, 2016 after 4600 performances.) ..... With music by Sir ELTON JOHN and book and lyrics by LEE HALL (who wrote the film's screenplay), the musical revolves around motherless Billy, who trades boxing gloves for ballet shoes. The story of his personal struggle and fulfillment are balanced against a counter-story of family and community strife caused by the eighties' coal miners' strike in Northern England. Hall's screenplay was inspired in part by A. J. Cronin's novel, The Stars Look Down, and the musical's opening song is an homage. It was directed by STEPHEN DALDRY and choreographed by PETER DARLING, as was the original film ..... LIAM MOWER, JAMES LOMAS and GEORGE MAGUIRE were the original actors who alternated in the title role, and the supporting cast included HAYDN GWYNNE as Mrs. Wilkinson, ANN EMERY as "Grandma", JOE CAFFREY as "Tony" (Billy's brother) and TIM HEALY as Billy's father ..... CREDITS: Music by Sir ELTON JOHN; Book and Lyrics by LEE HALL; Sets designed by IAN MacNEIL; Costumes designed by NICKY GILLIBRAND; Choreographed by PETER DARLING; Directed by STEPHEN DALDRY; Produced by Working Title Films, Old Vic Productions and David Furnish ..... DETAILS: Advertising handbills (heralds) were distributed or inserted into the playbills of other productions to help generate ticket sales for upcoming shows and events. This six panel, bi-fold flyer measures 4" X 8 1/4" inches (11 5/8" X 8 1/4" inches when opened), is printed on a heavy card stock and includes production credits, beautiful full color photography, excerpts from several London reviews, a brief synopsis in seven different languages and booking information on the backside. The small minicard measures approx. 2 1/4" X 3 3/8" inches and has the show's logo on the front and booking information and a map of Victoria Station on the backside .....
