Description: This is a beautiful December 2011 playbill (with a ticket stub from the December 7th, 2011 matinee performance) from the final weeks of the Original Broadway production of the Tony Award winning Sir ELTON JOHN and LEE HALL musical "BILLY ELLIOT" at the Imperial Theatre in New York City. (The production opened November 13th, 2008 and closed January 8th, 2012 after 1312 performances.) ..... Winner of 10 Tony Awards, the musical alternated TADE BIESINGER, JULIAN ELIA, JOSEPH HARRINGTON and PETER MAZUROWSKI in the title role and starred DANIEL JENKINS as "Billy's Dad" and EMILY SKINNER as "Mrs. Wilkinson. Others in principal roles included KATHERINE McGRATH as "Grandma", PATRICK MULVEY as "Tony" and JACK BRODERICK and CAMERON CLIFFORD alternating as "Michael". The music is by Sir ELTON JOHN with book and lyrics by LEE HALL (who wrote the film's screenplay). The musical revolves around motherless Billy, who trades boxing gloves for ballet shoes. The story of his personal struggle and fulfillment are balanced against a counter-story of family and community strife caused by the eighties' coal miners' strike in Northern England. Hall's screenplay was inspired in part by A. J. Cronin's novel, The Stars Look Down, and the musical's opening song is an homage. It was directed by STEPHEN DALDRY and choreographed by PETER DARLING, as was the original film ..... CREDITS: Music by Sir ELTON JOHN; Book and Lyrics by LEE HALL; Sets designed by IAN MacNEIL; Costumes designed by NICKY GILLIBRAND; Choreographed by PETER DARLING; Directed by STEPHEN DALDRY; Produced by UNIVERSAL PICTURES STAGE PRODUCTIONS, WORKING TITLE FILMS and OLD VIC PRODUCTIONS in association with THE WEINSTEIN COMPANY ..... Includes a ticket from the December 7th, 2011 matinee performance stapled inside the front cover .....
