ABOUT THE AUTHOR: Martha Finley: Martha Finley (pen name: Martha Farquharson; April 26, 1828 – January 30, 1909) was an American teacher and author of numerous works for children, the best known being the 28-volume Elsie Dinsmore series which was published over a span of 38 years. Her books tend to be sentimental, with a strong emphasis on religious belief. The daughter of Presbyterian minister Dr. James Brown Finley and his wife and cousin Maria Theresa Brown Finley. CONDITION: This antique book is complete and intact in very good condition as evidenced by the photos. The covers are in very good condition with light edge and corner wear. The inside covers are in very good condition, with no cracking or separation at the hinges. There are no bookplates, markings, or any writing on the inside covers or end papers. The pages are in very good condition, pages are crisp, all pages are tight to the binding. The spine is in very good condition, the lettering is easily read.
