Description: Ella in her prime. 10 35mm color slides and 4 1" color negatives. Taken by Fred Schnell in the 1960's. Frederick Schnell was a photojournalist who's career spanned the 1950's - 1970's. He shot album covers for Mercury records and spent time with music greats such as Dizzy Gillespie, Oscar Peterson, James Brown, John Denver, Pete Seeger, Nat King Cole...just to name a few. His career as newspaper journalist included Time Life, The Chicago Sun Times, The New York Times, and The Denver Times, and many others. He published a seminal book on rodeo, entitled "Rodeo: The Suicide Circuit", published by Random House and still in print today. Throughout his career, he covered many sectors of life: jazz, folk, racing, politics, comedy, fashion, rodeo, Black celebrities, and current events. He left a portfolio of over 14,000 images.
