Description: Up for bid is a beautiful limited edition lithograph print by the acclaimed American artist ELAINE DE KOONING. It is entitled ON THE WAY TO THE SAN REMO, and was produced as a posthumous collaboration with the poet, critic and curator Frank O'Hara in 1967. It is printed on a woven Mohawk Superfine Smooth paper in an edition of 2500, and comes from copy 1774 (as notated on the colophon page). It is in excellent vintage condition. The sheet size measures 12"x18", with a center vertical fold as issued and signed in the plate by the artist. It should also be noted that several of these poems by O'Hara were printed on multiple leaves, and also include multiple illustrations by the particular visual artist. In 1967, a year after the untimely death of the poet, critic, and curator Frank O'Hara, The Museum of Modern Art published a seminal collection of illustrated poems to celebrate the life and work of O'Hara entitled IN MEMORY OF MY FEELINGS. Under the direction of the editor (poet Bill Berkson), art director (painter Robert Motherwell) and poetry selection consultants (poets John Ashbery and Kenneth Koch)... 30 different visual artists who had been closely tied to the life and work of O'Hara were invited to collaborate on the project. Each artist was assigned a different O'Hara poem and asked to produce original acetate artwork as a response to their particular poem. The results of the collaboration were then printed as a beautiful limited edition slipcase of unbound lithographs.
