Description: The compilation of memorial tributes to Dwight David Eisenhower that were delivered in Congress upon his passing. A true legend in American history with his role in World War II and then his eight years of leadership as President of the United States. This copy has stamped on one of the introductory pages....From the office of Senator John L McClellan. Whether this was his personal copy or whether he gave these out as gifts remains unknown. Most likely it was given out as a gift from him. Regardless, the provenance is that this book's path in life took it through Senator John L McClellan's office. Sen McClellan was a US Senator from Arkansas from 1943-1977. He passed away in November of 1977. At the time of his death, he was the second most senior member of the Senate and chairman of the Senate Appropriations Committee. This tribute book to Eisenhower came out in 1970 when McClellan was at the height of his powers. An interesting tidbit about McClellan and Eisenhower...in 1957, McClellan opposed President Eisenhower's decision to send federal troops to enforce the desegregation of Central High School in Little Rock, AR.
