Description: Edwin Percy Whipple was born in Gloucester , Mass. in 1819 - Notable American essayist, critic, lecturer and author. He was a close friend of of Nathanial Hawthorne and other Boston area writers including Ralph Waldo Emerson, Oliver Wendell Holmes and Henry Wadsworth Longfellow and others. Whipple died in 1886 and is buried at Mount Auburn Cemetery in Cambridge.
