Description: Edwin Balmer, Philip Wylie, When worlds collide, Frederick Stokes, 1st printing, 1933. One of most influential SF books, a cornerstone story of Men (and Women and Children) survival after destruction of Earth, one of the most exciting imaginative stories written. In the best tradition of the 20th century scientists save mankind (actually themselves but it is understood that with time they will reproduce and replenish). Then multiple reprints, Lippincott, Burt, Book club, later paperbacks, Easton press edition, '51 movie and after 90+ years still a very good book. Printed first by Stokes in 33, than copyright was sold to Lippincott. Most sellers say there are three different bindings of this 1st edition: burgundy boards with light blue letters, red with gold letters and red with black letters and all agree this copy in burgundy/blue is the 1st state. I've never seen red/gold edition but red/black copy I have on the shelf and it is a later printing, not variant state- no date on title page and the book itself is 1/8 of an inch larger. Condition: book is near fine, very clean, tight and square, solid binding, fine hinges. No dust jacket but you can buy a Xerox copy from Facsimile Dust Jackets for $25 I think. Alternative would be $6000+ for a book with original jacket, there are a couple on Abebooks. An important scarce book in near fine condition
