Description: Edinburgh Crystal Thistle Decanter Ruby Cut Glass Scottish Art Glass Antique Click images to enlarge Description This exquisite, ruby or cranberry red cut crystal decanter is part of the Scottish Thistle pattern which was introduced by Edinburgh Crystal in 1896 and continues to be popular today. Typically the Thistle pattern is found in clear crystal, it is rare to find it in this colour of ruby cased in crystal. The pattern features a tapered body which is accented with panels and topped with a bulb of cross cuts. The shoulder and neck are also paneled and the stopper is cut to match. More modern pieces of Edinburgh crystal are typically signed, this piece is unsigned, but is an exact match to their pattern and quality. The lack of signature and scarcety of the colour leads me to believe this is one of the early Thistle pieces that was made in the late 19th or early 20th century. This piece is a cordial or liqueur decanter. It measures 8 1/4" in height and 4" in diameter at the base. In excellent condition this piece has no chips or cracks. There is one miniscule pinpoint nick on the rim and a couple of minor scratches of wear on the base. When held to the light there is some light clouding on the inside which is not visible in normal light. FH050036 Images sell!
