This is a feather pillow and cannot be compared to an extra soft down pillow. Feather pillows also give off feathers. It is part and parcel of owning a feather pillow. These pillows are shedding feathers due to the cleaning that was done to ready the pillows for responsible storage and sale. These pillows are machine washable and dryable. They have been machine washed on the delicate cycle and dried on the delicate cycle so as to be clean and ready for a new owner. As a result, some feathers are leeching from the cotton cover. Shedding of feathers is very normal and common - basically, a phenomenon to be expected if you own and use these pillows over time - and the timeline for feather loss is only accelerated further by agitation. The washing machine and dryer triggered the process, even on the delicate setting. Very few feathers have actually escaped, but they do cling to a good portion of the outside of the cover. This issue is easily resolved by putting the pillow into a zip close pillow protector before inserting the pillow into a pillow case. Otherwise, these pillows are in excellent condition. If you can overlook the superficial surfacing of some feathers, you will have a high quality feather pillow with many wonderful years of use remaining.
