Wonderfully chilled-out ambient atmospherics. Eberg, have been compared to Belle & Sabastian and Sigur Ros Voff Voff is how Icelanders describe a dog’s bark, but that’s about the only recognisably Icelandic link at play here. The London-based Einar Tonsberg’s second album reveals none of the otherworldliness of, say, Bjork,, Sigur Ros or Mum but more a lo-fi dilettante who invests his digital pop with warmth and whimsy. Eberg clearly loves his bleepy synth-pop: the opening Love Your Bum consists of toilet roll advert slogans, and I’m Moving to Wales milks Super Furry Animals’ psych-soup sound. But he can turn his hand to whispery Americana (Sober in June), plastic funk (Dirk and Sabine) and swarthy rock (Fun Anyway), too. Clearly of no fixed musical or physical abode, Eberg nails it when he sings “I belong in the land of song”. (The Times)
