Description: EARLY 20TH CENTURY AMERICAN VINTAGE WROUGHT IRON & ALUMINUM 'MUDDERS' LITTLE HELPER SAFETY FOOT/BOOT SCRAPER, with SCROLLED SIDE ARMS & CUT, SPIKED LEGS for DRIVING into the GROUND (Circa 1925-1940)Early 20th century American vintage wrought iron boot scrapers & home porch/entry accessories DIMENSIONS:14 1⁄4" Height x 11 3⁄4" Width DESCRIPTION:From the period of the 1920's to 1930's comes this really wonderful Great Gatsby era to the era of the Great Depression, this pre-WWII American boot scraper was mounted in a lawn off the front door, of what would have been a well-appointed or patrician estate, where folks, upon entering the home, were encouraged by this device, to come over and to scrape the mud, grass and soil from the bottoms of their shoes and boots off on the flanged top iron plate, before entering the home. Of course, in western cultures and particularly in American culture, people did not take off their boots and shoes upon entering the home but kept them on. This presented a clear challenge for any housekeeper to keep the dust and dirt off of hardwood floors and carpets. This wrought iron and black enamel ink lithographed brushed aluminum labeled 'Mudders' was the next best thing to taking off your shoes or boots when entering a home. The iron shows evidence of being out of doors, with some minor pitting in places. It's original black enamel paint is however, largely intact. Terrific. CONDITION:Good to Very Good overall vintage condition.
