Description: Pictured is an early blue & white spongeware pitcher offered for sale. The bulbous, tapered pitcher is a shape & form not seen before. The pitcher is hand thrown & exhibits numerous circular designs randomly dispersed over the exterior body & the handle. Two thin blue slip bands divide the sponging near the base. The pitcher measures 8 3/8" in height & dates from 1860 - 1885. As seen, the pitcher has a shallow flake on the side of the spout which has been previously painted over. No hairlines or repairs. A very uncommon spongeware pitcher with great eye-appeal....
