Description: This is an original, 250+ year old, engraving titled "The Bay of Murderers". This engraving depicts the first encounter between Europeans and Maori in December 1642. Four of Dutch exployer Abel Tasman's men were killed in this exchange. He named the location The Bay of Murderers - now Golden Bay. Top left corner"Vol.II."; Top right corner "page.5.". Full margins, unframed. I do not know the book this came from & have not found an exact example on the internet. I've had this engraving for more than 20 years, purchased from a PA collector. I was told, at the time I purchased this piece, that this was the first English language version of this event. Please see the photos. This is an original historic engraving ready for framing. Buyer pays for shipping and applicable sales tax.
