Description: Update: It glows! I checked the box above for uranium glass, but other elements like manganese, etc. can also cause glass to glow under black light so it's just a guess. This beautiful Bryce Brothers compote/pedestal/footed bowl is a stunning piece of Victorian-era glassware. The intricate diamond optic pattern and blue color make it a true standout. Measuring 3.5 inches in height and 8 inches in width, this round bowl is perfect for serving or just looking pretty. Crafted in the United States in the 1880s, this original piece is made of pressed glass and weighs 2 pounds. It is perfect for collectors of antique glassware or anyone looking to add a touch of elegance to their dining experience. Pattern #1000 also known as Diamond Quilted. I have also seen it referred to as Diamond Optic. There are a number of chips at the bottom outside of the bowl where the bottom meets the sides and one on the pedestal. You can feel them much more than see them but they are there. That may sound like a lot (not sure what Great Aunt Ada was doing, or drinking, in the kitchen when she was making trifle) but this sweet bowl dates to the 1880s so perhaps we can forgive the chips. Actually I know I can. This bowl has been sitting on a shelf at the back for quite a while. Now that I have it out I'm not sure I want to part with it. The color is intense and gorgeous and that intensifies even more so when you place it on dark wood. Please see all photos and let me know if you have any questions. All inquiries are welcome! (This is not a family piece - I made up Great Aunt Ada) Photos 3 & 4 - just two views of the bowlPhoto 5 - a better look at the pedestalPhoto 6 - some air bubblesPhoto 7 - some very faint discoloration that appears to be in the glassPhoto 8 - a ding in the pedestalPhotos 9 &10 - Both seams - you can feel them and see them - they are pronouncedPhotos 11-15 - The chips on the outside ridge where the bottom of the bowl meets the sides (see description above) You may have to zoom in. Photo 16 - photo taken from the outside of the bottom of the bowl to show a mark on the inside bottom of bowl. Could be a scratch but it may be what people refer to as a straw mark.
