Description: Original Dutch School early 20th century oil painting on wood panel. The painting depicts a canal in Amsterdam, barges moored in the foreground, city building fronts just behind, likely dates from 1900 to 1920. It is very dark, probably with grime that has been varnished over. There is a possible signature at the lower right, although it could be the boat name painted on the barge side, it is so vague I could not get it to show in a photo. It is painted on an old wooden artist's panel that is stamped with the mark of the art supply house of A.J. van der Linde, founded in Amsterdam in 1898. The painting measures 14 1/8 x 19 1/2 inches, with frame 19 1/4 x 24 3/4 inches, the frame and gilt liner are of recent vintage, but of good quality. Aside from the age darkened patina, the painting appears to be in very fine condition.
