Description: This is a D.R.L. Sports Badges pre-1937, First Class Badge in Gold (Reichssportabzeichen DRL vor 1937 ohne Hakenkreuz in Gold). This D.R.L. badge is a gold grade, pre-1937 version, constructed of gilded bronze. The obverse consisting of an oval oak leaf wreathed, tied together at the bottom by a bow-tie ribbon, with central initials "DRL." The reverse with a barrel hinge and banjo-style pin-back meeting a flat wire catch and the reverse is also unmarked. The badge measures 39.47 mm (w) x 48.23 mm (h), in better than very fine condition. These pre-1937 badges are difficult to find and much rarer than the post-1937 with the swastika. It took me several years to collect all three grades. I purchased it in 2004 from a dealer in Hamburg, Germany. "Forman's Guide to TR German Awards & Documents, Volume 2" currently values this D.R.L. Sports Badge at $250.00 (page 445). NOTE: These are all pieces from my 30 year personal collection of WW2 Militaria that I am now liquidating.
