Description: Downliners Sect– The Sect 1964 UK Columbia Blues, Electric Blues, Harmonica Blues, Rhythm & Blues Downliners Sect are an English R&B and blues-based rock band, formed in the 1960s beat boom era. Stylistically, they were similar to blues-based bands such as The Yardbirds, The Pretty Things and the Rolling Stones, playing basic R&B. This is their first album released in 1964 on the Columbia Label. The custom printed front laminated card sleeve would grade as G. As is common with a white sleeve, there are definite signs of handling, ring wear and discolouration. The flipbacks are in very reasonable condition but the corners are scuffed particularly at the bottom right (see photos). There is edge and corner wear. The front of the sleeve shows some damage bottom right (see photos) - a crease and some staining. The spine is clearly readable but the entry edge shows definite signs of use. There is a 1cm split bottom right. The original polylined paper swirl inner is damaged in that there are two small tears around the centre (see photos). Grades as F to G. The vinyl (Side 1) is graded as VG+. The blue / black Columbia label is in reasonable condition for its age. There are obvious spindle marks, numerous hairlines and a noticeable scuff. There are several marks which cannot be felt and do not seem to impact on play. On play grading there was certainly nothing to really spoil the enjoyment of this side - even at high volume. It plays superbly with very strong audio. The vinyl (Side 2) is graded as VG-. The blue / black Columbia label is in reasonable condition for its age. There are obvious spindle marks, numerous hairlines and a noticeable scuff. There are several marks which cannot be felt and do not seem to impact on play. However there is a mark which runs between Track 3 (Easy Rider) and Track 6 (I Wanna Put A Tiger In Your Tank) which can clearly be heard between the tracks (see photos). It is noticeable during Track 5 (Bright Lights Big City) for a few revolutions but, on the whole, it really doesn't impact on enjoyment of the album,. Once again, on play grading there was certainly nothing to really spoil the enjoyment of this side - even at high volume. It plays superbly with very strong audio. The Blue/Black Columbia labels carry the 'Recording First Published' and 'Sold in the UK' texts. The matrix numbers are believed to be Matrix / Runout (A-Side Run-out, Stamped): XAX 2729-1NMatrix / Runout (B-Side Run-out, Stamped): XAX 2730-1N An opportunity to acquire a rare and highly sought-after vinyl record in reasonable condition for its age.
