Description: Books on the railroads of Arkansas are rather scarce. Author and one-time MoPac employee Charles Duckworth compiled this title on the depots of the railroad’s former St. Louis, Iron Mountain & Southern main and branches through Arkansas. After a brief summary of the Iron Mountain’s history, the stations are presented in a point-to-point format as a traveler would have seen in the heyday of steam operation. The mainline as well as branches are all portrayed, supported with images of freight and passenger trains, railroad facilities, terminals, river boats, local industries, and town views. Altogether, this is a unique and singular portrayal of a significant part of the MoPac’s service in Arkansas. Additional chapters cover station design, color schemes, dimensions, details on auxiliary structures at the depots, etc. This is a 152-page mostly b&w hardcover book. Laminated cover. Gloss paper.
