The red is very visible in both lighting conditions, although I think it is better suited for an early morning hunt or in the evening when the Sun is setting. This site is very effective out to 50 yards. I've personally had it on my Ruger 10/22 and it will shoot one whole groups all day at 25 yards. At 50 yards it still holds a very tight pattern. Making it very effective for small game hunting, or casual plinking in the backyard. I'm not the steadiest person in the world( not too shabby for old eyes )so that'll depend on your skill level. This combination includes an adjustable Weaver/picatinny rail, so it will fit any configuration, whether that be a rifle or even a pistol for that matter It has adjustments for windage and elevation. The turrets are very sturdy. They have a very firm click when adjusting for point of aim. The site holds zero very effectively and for the money, is really hard to beat for a nice starting green and red side system. As my bio says, I'm not a large retailer, I'm just a regular guy that has a gun safe full of things that eventually I get rid of because they're taking up space. I take care of my things very well, this item in fact looks and performs as new. So in other words it's as good as used. LOL
