This antique print depicts stray dogs waiting outside the Home for Destitute and Starving Dogs on Hollingsworth Street in Islington England. This was an early animal shelter called the Battersea Dogs Home. The sign on the wall says “Notice: Pity the Poor Starving Dogs. Donations Thankfully Received.” Battersea Dogs & Cats Home (previously Battersea Dogs Home) is an animal shelter that rescues cats and dogs in need of help and nurtures them until an owner or a new home can be found. It was established in Holloway, London in 1860 and moved to Battersea in 1871.The print is very large (folio size), measuring approximately 11 x 15 inches (28 x 38 cm). The picture fills most of it, measuring about 9 x 13 inches, with a caption below it. The page is in excellent condition for its age. There is text/photos on the back of the print.
