Description: Historical Dirk Van Erp piece available for your American art collection. Dirk Van Erp, based out of San Francisco, led the Arts & Crafts period in America in the late 1800s and early 1900s with his copper metalsmith work. Some of his work can be seen on display at the Met in New York. This particular piece is a hammered copper inkwell about 4x4 inches at the base and 2.5 inches high. We haven’t been able to locate any DVE inkwells like this one, featuring a unique decorative embellishment on top (instead of being blank or including a past owner’s monogram). The open windmill mark on the base dates this piece 1913-1915. The ink well currently resides just a town over from where Dirk Van Erp created his period leading copper metalsmith work in the Bay Area.
