Description: Antique Dewar's Perth Whisky jug, "By Royal Warrant to Her Majesty The Queen." Made of stoneware and hand-thrown, although at first glance you wouldn't think so, it is so symmetrical and graceful. Has several little details, fingerprints and the like, that give it away and add lovely character. Salt-glazed, with a green neck and handle. 9 1/4 inches high, and about 5 inches in diameter; stamped on the bottom DOULTON LAMBETH ENGLAND and 4255. This dates it to before 1901, while Victoria was still Queen and before Doulton was permitted to add "Royal" to its name. This particular model is scarce. Decorated with a whimsical transfer titled "The Whisky of his forefathers," depicting an apparently late-Victorian gentleman in a kilt enjoying a snort, surrounded by ancestors from several centuries who are climbing out of their portraits to have a taste themselves. Being well-bred, I guess, he is not alarmed by ghosts, and calmly passes the bottle to the nearest one! Has two notable flaws: a hairline crack in the handle, and a small flat spot on the lip that, on close inspection, appears to be an old chip. The crack does appear to go all the way through, though the handle feels solid. There are several photos of these flaws, so please be sure and scroll through all of the photos. I will pack this to protect the handle and insure it at my expense. Ships in via your choice of service. Whenever possible, I ship same or next day, so that you can receive your item as quickly as possible. I am happy to ship overseas, but please ask for a shipping quote as whatever ebay has listed is likely to be an overestimate.
