Sorry, I cannot help identify or advise application for Mercury use, my only reference is OMC.From looking at the instruction sheet, one end of the coupler threads onto the tube and the other end threads onto the cable. The cable stud threads into the rod and the steering link. The parts are subject to being stored in the shop for several years. In general, the parts are typical for their age. I am in the process of selling remaining items from my family’s boat and motor business which operated for over 60 years. The business dealt primarily OMC and has been closed for several years.
