Where to begin on this lot?! Well, let's begin with the person...Robert E. Herold, US Air Force Veteran who went on to work for Boeing Aerospace and TRW for 30 years as a Ballistic Missile Engineer. Later he worked in the Pentagon. In this lot, you will receive Mr. Herold's retirement Desk Pen Holder set that he received from Boeing. It is composed of stainless steel rockets and missiles mounted on what I believe is a dense acrylic base (I'm pretty sure it's not marble) with two brass pen holders and matching pens (the pens on longer have ink). The base measures 11" x 3.5" and the tallest rocket is 8" tall. The set is in very good antique condition showing age-appropriate patina--the pics don't do this set justice! There's more: as part of this estate find, you'll also receive Mr. Herold's graduate thesis project entitled Secondary Fluid Injection into a Supersonic Channel that he co-authored with Larry Allen Schaut in 1963 at the University of Washington (hardbound, 150 pages with original glossy photos and many schematics)...the project was published year before he was hired by Boeing. (Thesis co-author, Larry Allen Schaut, also rose to prominence in the aerospace industry at Boeing and NASA's Jet Propulsion Lab, developing numerous large aircraft design and performance patents while working on projects like the SST, Lunar Orbiter, and many others.) Also included in the lot are two professional membership certificates and an 8" x 10" photo of a missile warhead (on which Mr. Herold worked extensively throughout his career)--these were tucked into the Thesis.
