On large engines the decoupler pulley serves no purpose besides possibly extending alternator life by a slight amount. The clutch allows the alternator to turn one way and free spin when the vehicles rpm changes so the alternator rpm slowly adjusts under its own momentum. But the clutch in these pulleys unually go out 15k-60k miles, far shorter than the alternator service life of 150k+ miles. We highly recommend replacing the pulley with a standard steel pulley to avoid being stranded by a bad pulley clutch. Tighten pulley with 1/2in impact to 70lb-100lbs Rectifier and regulator must be soldered on with HD high temp solder.
