Description: This great old wooden foundry mold was used to produce storm stays for a Dempster windmills. Appears to be the pattern for 10ft models refereed to as Dempster #12. It is the internal spiral spacer. The wooden mold weighs 5 pounds. This mold is double sided and is the way the foundry managed the small items for casting process. The board is 3/4" wood, so it is heavy and stable. Wonderful old industrial wall decor for vintage industrial homes or businesses. This wooden foundry mold is from the early 1900's. It came from the Dempster Foundry in Beatrice, NE. The foundry opened in 1876 and made all kinds of cast iron items, but specialized in the windmill industry. The foundry used these molds in a sand casting process to produce the items in cast iron. The molds were made by specially skilled craftsmen, whose precision work made perfect replicas of the cast iron piece. This foundry mold is a great old piece of American Industrial history, wonderful for industrial urban decor.
