Defending America Gum Card R40 Strip Card 1941 RAILROAD GUN Cannon World War Two

Description: This card was issued by the W.S. Co. of New York City during 1941, as part of a series of 48 card (numbered 200-248) . As it is a strip card it is assumed that it was either sold in stores in strips with Candy or Gum, or sold through 1 cent machines (hence the perforated edges on two sides). They are listed in Burdicks American Card Catalogue as series R40 titled Defending America. As the name suggests the series features illustrations of different War themed “Defense” weapons used by the United States Military at the time. This one is numbered 239 and features a Railway Gun The card measures just under 2 ¾ inches by 2 3/8 inches approximately. The card does have some slight wear at the corners but is free from major creases. I have scanned the front and back of the card fairly large for you to be able to judge condition for yourself.
